Pianist Dominic Spencer and saxophonist Ian Millar will bring their Jazz in the Village show to the newly-refurbished Scarth Hall, in Staindrop. They promise a melodic mix of standards and original compositions played to a cabaret-style auditorium with low lights.
The musicians have been touring as a duo for more than a decade.
Mr Spencer said they particularly enjoyed playing to village hall audiences.
“You get a really good jazz club experience when you play in a village hall,” he said.
“It is a unique atmosphere and it is a quality experience for us which is why we like doing it.
“Unlike playing in a pub or club, when people come to a village hall, they come to listen. Sometimes you can hear a pin drop and that is quite intense for us as musicians.”
He added: “The music we play is quite accessible and it generally goes down well.
“We travel the length of the country – from Dorset to Durness. You find in village halls, the audience knows each other and quite often bring in their own drink and food, which makes for the unique atmosphere.”
Since reopening after a £500,000 facelift, Scarth Hall officials have begun expanding the range of events staged at the venue to include more live music and stage performances, with more being lined up for the new year.
Jazz in the Village at Scarth Hall takes place on Saturday, December 17, starting at 8pm. Tickets cost £10 and include food.
