Van ploughs into Toft Hill home

Posted on December 13, 2016 by Unknown

Residents in Toft Hill had an unexpected wake up call this morning when a van ploughed into the front of a house.
The vehicle was travelling on the A68 when it hit the terraced house at around 7am.
Nobody in the property was injured and the driver of the vehicle was also unhurt.
Resident Janet Balmer said: “I didn’t see it happen. The first we saw was the traffic slowing down outside our house. Thankfully no one was hurt.”
Durham Police attended the scene as well as structural engineers who assessed the state of the property and made sure it was safe to remove the vehicle.
A police spokesperson said: “Further enquiries are ongoing. It looks like the vehicle might have swerved to avoid another vehicle. There is nothing untoward.”
