Dazzling display kickstarts Christmas in Eggleston

Posted on December 10, 2016 by Unknown
EGGLESTON villagers tripped the light fantastic last week after another sterling community effort produced a Christmas illumination display to be proud of.
Some 29 trees were lit up at a ceremony on the village green on Thursday night.
Charlie Moore, 4, of Middleton-in-Teesdale School was given the honour of pressing the button after he was nominated by a winner of a pub sweepstake. The village illuminations have been going from strength to strength since they were launched in 2005. Suzanne Herbert, from the carnival committee, said: “We have had something a little bit special this year because we received grants from councillors Richard Bell and Ted Henderson to upgrade the infrastructure of the lights.
“We have had some generous donations and have had lots of fundraising.”
Villagers were served mulled wine and soup – the soup was provided by The Three Tuns. Children enjoyed a treasure hunt and had their photos taken by illuminated reindeer.
Hundreds of people are now expected at the carols on the green event on Christmas Eve at 6.30pm. Some members of Reeth Brass Band will perform on the night.
